Newcastle could inflict damage for future transfer windows an insider has warned over their handling of the Alexander Isak saga.

Liverpool had a bid of £100million rejected for Isak, and it is expected that the Reds will return with a new offer after Newcastle agreed a deal to sign Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart.

Newcastle have insisted Isak is not for sale, despite his refusal to take part in the Toons’ opening two Premier League fixtures.

The standoff has left Eddie Howe with few options up-front, with Anthony Gordon being sent off against Liverpool, limiting his attacking options further.

Taking to X, the Daily Telegraph’s Luke Edwards said has been in a change at Newcastle around the Isak situation, with a move to Liverpool for the striker looking like it could happen.

Edwards went on to say: “If he goes, no matter how it is spun or dressed up, is a huge setback.

“Of course, nothing is guaranteed yet but this appears to be the direction of travel.”

Football Insider Verdict

Just three days remain of the transfer window, and with the stance on Isak not changing, Newcastle may be forced to cash in on the 25-year-old now they have sourced Woltemade.

Selling a player that was deemed not for sale at below the set valuation would be a sign of weakness from the Newcastle owners, and it could impact them in future transfer windows.

Liverpool looked prepared to increase their bid to £120m to snatch Isak at the final hour, an offer Newcastle now need to be seriously considering.

The funds would prove beneficial to Howe, as Newcastle insist Woltemade is a Callum Wilson replacement not an Isak one.

Liverpool would be strengthened with the arrival of Isak, but Newcastle need reinforcements and there only looks to be one solution to their problems.
