Liverpool have had some elite managers in their time but some perhaps did not get the credit they deserved.

Reds fans will feel rather reassured having Arne Slot at the helm, and they would have felt the same way too when Jurgen Klopp was in charge.



But other than these two, Liverpool managers in recent history have not exactly been the most successful, although to be fair, the quality of squad was nowhere near as high as it is now.



Daniel Sturridge is just one player who would have thrived in a Klopp or Slot team in his prime, although he still managed to fare pretty well under another manager.

And, despite all the criticism one boss in particular faced, he believes that he was actually seriously underrated.

Before Klopp came in and won Liverpool their first Premier League title, it was Brendan Rodgers who was in charge.

Despite having a team that did not look capable of challenging for the title, he somehow got very close in 2014, although the Reds eventually missed out by two points.

The season after he lasted until just October, however, after a very underwhelming start to the season, with many fans turning on him.

But, Sturridge believes that, despite all this, Rodgers was actually a very underrated manager and that he deserves more credit for the job he did.



“I was part of that so why would I say overrated?” Sturridge replied when asked if his old boss was overrated or underrated for a TikTok video.

“Brendan Rodgers was great at Liverpool.”

The Englishman scored 22 league goals under Rodgers in 2013, while also forming the formidable ‘SAS’ partnership with Luis Suarez.

Whether it says more about the managers Liverpool have had or Rodgers himself, the Northern Irishman is largely considered as one of the better ones since 1992.

In fact, he has the fourth highest win percentage of any of the nine who have been in charge in the Premier League era, with only Rafa Benitez, Klopp and Slot faring better.

And, if it was not for a collapse towards the end of the 2013/14 season, he would have been able to call himself a Premier League-winning manager.

So, in the grand scheme of things, perhaps Sturridge is right, and perhaps Rodgers’ tenure is overshadowed by the success the man brought to the club so soon after.
