The president of communications at River Plate has denied the club made an advance to sign Darwin Nunez from Liverpool in the January window.
But Stefano Di Carlo has also admitted the Argentinian giants will "strengthen certain positions" when the summer window opens at the end of the current campaign.
Nunez was a target of clubs in Saudi Arabia during the winter window before it was decided by the Reds that they needed the Uruguay international at Anfield to help with what has ultimately become a successful quest for the Premier League title.
Despite the new champions' January stance, though, Nunez's long-term future remains far from certain on Merseyside.

And while there is potential for a return from Saudi-based clubs, AC Milan are also believed to be monitoring the situation after deciding against a move earlier this year.
Speaking about links to Nunez and former Manchester United winger Angel di Maria, now at Benfica, Di Carlo told TyC Sports in quotes that have been translated via Sport Witness that the recent reports of a January deal for both were inaccurate.

"All those names are false," Di Carlo is quoted as saying.
"River made a strong transfer market in January.
"Of course, they will surgically seek out and strengthen certain positions; but that will happen when the transfer market opens.
