For most Reds fans, it’s now clear that Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Anfield this summer.
Liverpool have established a clear valuation for their 2022 signing, demanding a fee of £70 million for Darwin Nunez’s departure.
This asking price is based on a previous offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, which Liverpool rejected during the January transfer window.
Liverpool’s stance remains firm despite the player’s limited impact last season, where he managed just seven goals in 47 appearances across all competitions.
His final start for Liverpool came in March 2025, as Slot increasingly opted for Luis Díaz and Diogo Jota in central attacking positions.
It now seems likely that the forward will conclude his Liverpool career having scored 40 goals in 122 appearances for the club.
Al-Hilal have approached Liverpool in recent weeks to discuss the terms of a potential agreement, having been alerted to the club’s requirements in the transfer market.
However, it is said that Nunez has spurned Al-Hilal’s advances, even after agreeing to listen to them out at first.
The forward would prefer to stay within European football, with Spain and Italy his objectives of choice.
This unwillingness to ply his trade in the Middle East has been a source of frustration for Liverpool’s attempts to raise funds through his sale.
And now a new player has emerged on the scene.
Reliable Italian journalist Matteo Moretto, speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, revealed AC Milan interest in the striker and reported that he is on their list:
“I’ll give you a new name: Milan are looking for a striker and a name that is in Allegri’s head is Dusan Vlahovic, but Darwin Nunez has also been explored,” he said as quoted by Milan News.
“We know that there are high costs, many things will need to be understood, but to date he has been explored?
Milan is looking for a high-level striker and Darwin is on Milan’s list.”
The striker’s contract runs until 2028, giving Liverpool a strong negotiating position despite his reduced playing time
However, the club appears willing to accept a financial loss on their investment rather than retain an asset that is going to depreciate as time goes on.
