Darwin Nunez considers Saudi move after Napoli deal collapses

The future of Darwin Nunez at Liverpool remains uncertain after a deal that could’ve potentially seen him move to Napoli fell through earlier this window.

The Uruguayan remains out of Arne Slot’s plans, and despite the forward agreeing personal terms with Napoli, the deal eventually collapsed after the Serie A ide refused to meet the asking price that Liverpool set for the player.

Liverpool have been busy signing players this window, but there are also a number of players they are looking at selling as part of a significant dressing room shake-up this summer.

Darwin Nunez is still under contract with Liverpool until 2028, and as a result the club will be looking to maximise any sale of the forward, after buying him for £85m back in 2022.

This was clear during the Napoli negotiations, as Liverpool look to recoup the majority of what they spent on the Uruguayan.

Merseyside journalist David Lynch has delved into the situation of Darwin Nunez, saying:

“Saudi will come back onto the table – that looks to be a serious option for him – and there was a willingness on the player’s side to make that move in January.”

“He wasn’t happy that Liverpool denied him the move then, so there’s a possibility now that that gets reignited – there’s going to be a willingness there this time as well.”

“I’d be very surprised if this window ends with Darwin Nunez still there.

I think [staying firm on their valuation] will ultimately prove to be the right stance because Liverpool will get what they want from this.”

Al-Hilal have been credited with the strongest interest in Darwin Nunez, and they would be able to meet Liverpool’s demands, which are said to be in excess of £60m.

Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that Al-Nassr have looked into the possibility of signing Darwin Nunez.

After considering the move in January before turning their attention to Jhon Duran, that player has already left the club, opening the possibility for other Saudi Pro League clubs to consider buying the Uruguayan this summer.

Darwin Nunez has failed to show throughout his three seasons at Liverpool that he has the consistency in front of goal that Liverpool requires, meaning a sale remains the likely best outcome for both parties.
