Darwin Nunez could be closing in on an exit from Liverpool, with the Reds claimed to have agreed a potential move for the striker to Saudi Arabia.

Nunez’s exit has been on the cards for some time, with the Uruguayan having fallen down the pecking order at Anfield after a disappointing season under Arne Slot.

He failed to start a game during the final couple of months of the 2024/25 campaign, with a move away from Merseyside looking certain earlier this summer.

That has been delayed somewhat after a switch to Napoli was seemingly ruled out, but now Nunez looks as though he is about to bring his three-year spell at Liverpool to an end.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have reached a verbal agreement with Al Hilal, with the Saudi Pro League club now in talks with the striker over personal terms.

The final decision will come down to Nunez, although Al Hilal boss Simone Inzaghi is said to be very keen on his signing.

Previous reports have suggested that Nunez would prefer to stay in Europe, although it remains to be seen whether he could be talked round to a move to the Middle East.

Certainly, a move to Saudi Arabia would appear to suit Liverpool more, with Pro League clubs seemingly more willing to meet the Reds’ valuation.

And that could be a major factor in the clubs’ agreement, with Liverpool of course still being heavily linked with a move for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

The Reds currently have no plans to follow up on last week’s rejected $146 million offer to the Magpies, although the funds from Nunez’s sale could facilitate a second bid, especially since Liverpool would need to find a new forward to bolster its frontline.

Although Nunez’s departure might point to a new bid being launched for Isak, Liverpool might have been dealt a blow elsewhere.

Liverpool continues to be heavily linked with Alexander Isak

Newcastle’s attempts to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig look to be failing as Manchester United closes in on the striker, who might well have been a replacement for Isak.

Although the Magpies have had an offer accepted by Leipzig, The Athletic reports that Sesko wants a move to Old Trafford, and United is advancing towards an agreement with the Bundesliga club.

Liverpool.com says: You’d have to imagine that Nunez’s departure would spring Liverpool into action for Isak again soon, although that Sesko news does create some more doubt.

Regardless, Nunez’s exit looks as though it will happen, and it’s the right thing to do for both parties
