Liverpool has confirmed Darwin Nunez's exit from the club, with the striker bringing an end to his three-year spell at Anfield as he joins Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

The Uruguayan completed his move on Saturday, having left the Reds' AXA Training Centre earlier this week in order to travel to Al Hilal's training camp in Germany to complete a medical.

Liverpool is understood to have agreed an initial $61.5 million deal with the Saudi side, not including add-ons, with Nunez signing a three-year deal with his new team.

Both clubs have now confirmed the deal, with Al Hilal posting a welcome video for Nunez on its social media channels.

"Liverpool FC can confirm Darwin Nunez has completed a permanent transfer to Al-Hilal, subject to international clearance," Liverpool posted on Saturday

"Everybody at the club would like to thank Darwin for his contributions and wish him and his family all the best for the future."

A move has been on the cards for some time for Nunez, with the 26-year-old having dropped down the pecking order under Arne Slot last season.

The striker struggled to live up to the expectations that came following his big-money move from Benfica in 2022, although his time at Anfield did provide a number of memorable moments, not least his dramatic late double to fire Liverpool to victory away at Brentford last season.

He remained part of the Reds' squad during pre-season, and scored five goals in four games in the process, but the arrival of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt looked to have confirmed Liverpool's plan to move him on.

And with Alexander Isak still being strongly linked with a move to Anfield, the Reds could still go big as they hope Nunez's replacement can succeed where the Uruguayan struggled.
