Liverpool’s £85 million Darwin Nunez experiment is edging towards its inevitable conclusion – and the Saudis are circling like vultures over a bruised, battle-worn striker.
The Uruguayan forward, once seen as Jurgen Klopp’s next big project, now finds himself surplus to Arne Slot’s vision.
After managing just eight Premier League starts last season and falling out of favour completely, Nunez’s Liverpool chapter is on the verge of an abrupt, if not lucrative, ending.
Journalist David Lynch, speaking to Sports Mole, revealed that Saudi clubs are back in the mix for Nunez – and this time, the player might not resist.

“Saudi will come back onto the table – that looks to be a serious option for him – and there was a willingness on the player’s side to make that move in January,” Lynch said.
“He wasn’t actually happy that Liverpool denied him the move then, so there’s a possibility now that that gets reignited, and if he’s shown a willingness in January and this Napoli move has fallen through and there’s no chance of that being resurrected, then there’s going to be a willingness there this time as well.
“Liverpool know what went on in January, that the Saudi interest was there, that they were willing to pay a much higher fee and that the player had a willingness to go there as well.”
This follows the collapse of a proposed move to Napoli, who agreed personal terms with Nunez but wouldn’t meet Liverpool’s £70m valuation, offering only £52m.

Al-Hilal, heavily linked in January, and Al-Nassr, who explored a move before signing Jhon Duran, are both ready to pounce.
Slot’s lack of faith is deafening.
And with Hugo Ekitike poised to arrive and Alexander Isak still on the radar, the message is clear: Liverpool are done waiting for Nunez to bloom.
“I’d be very surprised if this window ends with Darwin Nunez still there.
I think [staying firm on their valuation] will ultimately prove to be the right stance because Liverpool will get what they want from this.”
It’s the end of the road at Anfield.
A Saudi payday looms – and for a striker who could never quite finish the job, it may just be his last big win.
