Darwin Nunez has not had his best few weeks in a Liverpool shirt.

The Uruguayan has come under increasing pressure recently for his inefficiency in the final third, with fellow forwards like Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz also having difficulty finishing opportunities in crucial matches.

His cameo during Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur was arguably one of his worst showing this season and was guilty again of missing a clear cut 1v1 chance deep into stoppage time.

Before Manchester United in the FA Cup, Nunez was in good form and regularly popping up with goals and assists.

But like many Liverpool players, he really has struggled since then.

Indeed, since the FA Cup exit on 17 March, the 24-year-old has only managed to score one Premier League goal.

That is not the mark of a title-winning number 9, and Nunez has 11 Premier League goals in total.

For context, Erling Haaland had reached 11 goals by September in 2022/23 and Chelsea’s Diego Costa had scored 11 goals by December enroute to a Premier League trophy in 2016/17.

It’s clear to see that Nunez simply just did not score enough Premier League goals for a title-winning striker.

But he has improved this season, that much is clear to see.

The Uruguayan has managed 18 goals and 13 assists this term, compared to only 15 goals and four assists in 2022/23.

However, after seeing him miss another huge chance against Spurs, it feels like it is not enough.

Darwin Nunez removes all Liverpool-related posts

It seems his form and Liverpool’s disappointing end to the season as affected Nunez.

He has removed all Instagram posts about Liverpool except a post about the day he signed.

At the time of writing, this is the only Liverpool-related post Darwin Nunez has up?

His comment section was already only limited to people Nunez himself follows, so it would be difficult to imagine it related to abuse on his page.

It then comes at a worrying time with the summer window coming up.

It has already been reported that Nunez will ‘lose his biggest ally’ when Jurgen Klopp leaves and that Michael Edwards will judge him critically knowing that he didn’t sign him.

Nevertheless, it is not a good look for the 24-year-old, who should be focusing these efforts on becoming more clinical and decisive in front of goal.
