Liverpool are ready to assign Darwin Nunez’s successor in the number nine shirt after their number eight’s heroics against Arsenal.
The Reds took their first key step in the Premier League title race with a 1-0 win over Arsenal thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai‘s free-kick, and Arne Slot is set to bolster his squad before the transfer deadline.
Liverpool‘s spending so far this summer has already totalled over £290million with both Marc Guehi and Alexander Isak’s record-breaking moves close to completion, and the latter set to cost £125million alone.
Close to £200m has also been raised in the form of sales, however, and a significant chunk of this was brought in by Nunez’s £46.2m move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal as Slot cleared the path for Isak‘s transfer to be completed.

Guehi and Isak’s imminent arrivals at Anfield will further transform a Liverpool side which has undergone huge change from last season’s title win, and saw three of their eight new signings start against Arsenal.
Isak is set to overtake Florian Wirtz as Liverpool’s record signing after just 73 days, and the German’s presence in the number 10 role saw Szoboszlai shift to right-back in the absence of Jeremie Frimpong.
Szoboszlai impressed in the unfamiliar position and put in a man-of-the-match display to win the game for the Reds, curling home an 83rd-minute free-kick from range to evoke memories of Steven Gerrard.

Football Insider Verdict
After Szoboszlai showed that he’s got what it takes to deputise as an elite-level right-back alongside the Reds’ other options of Frimpong and Conor Bradley, Liverpool are ready for more competition up front.
Isak’s £125million move will add to the £69m plus add-ons paid to Eintracht Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike earlier this summer, and the Frenchman made an instant impact with goals in his first three appearances.
Ekitike‘s form makes the number nine spot his to lose at Anfield this season, but with Isak set to inherit the shirt left behind by Nunez, it remains to be seen how Slot juggles having two world-class strikers at his disposal.
