Darwin Nunez and Luis Suarez will have high hopes with Uruguay heading into Copa America in the summer and beyond.
Uruguay were in good form towards the end of 2023, beating both Brazil and Argentina in World Cup qualifiers in October and November last year.
There is no doubt the pair will play a major role in their nation’s fortunes this summer.
Of course, things for Darwin Nunez could be better at Liverpool at present.
Liverpool got back to winning ways with a 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, putting them back on a winning track.
However, the focus soon shifted from the team’s success to Darwin Nunez due to his actions after the match.
It was observed and later circulated that Nunez quickly left the field, heading straight to the tunnel once the game concluded.
By Sunday evening, it became apparent that he had removed nearly all his Instagram posts related to Liverpool FC.
Concerns have been mounting about Nunez’s performance, especially since Liverpool’s FA Cup loss to Manchester United.
The Uruguayan striker has faced criticism for his lack of efficiency in front of goal, an ongoing issue since his arrival at the club.
Now in his second season at Anfield, Liverpool fans are increasingly questioning if and when Nunez will live up to the expectations set by his £85 million transfer in the summer of 2022.
Luis Suarez advice to Darwin Nunez
Speaking to ESPN Uruguay (via Sport Witness), Liverpool’s N0.9 revealed that Suarez was the first person to message him in support after he headbutted Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen last season:
“With Luis we sometimes talk about a bit of everything, for example a lady in the Liverpool kitchen who adores Luis very much; the last time we spoke, she sent her regards.”
“Off the pitch we have a very good bond, I always follow him because Luis is an idol for me, and he also gives me a lot of advice.”
“For example, the time the headbutt happened, Luis was the first to write to me.:
“‘Idiot, don’t do that, another idiot is talking to you and he’s done it a thousand times,’ he told me.
With Luis there’s a very nice bond.”
There has recently been speculation about the future of Nunez at the club, especially after the events that unfolded last weekend.
It’s believed that Michael Edwards and co?
will judge the 24-year-old harshly as he was not ‘their’ signing.
Furthermore, it’s been reported that Nunez will lose his ‘biggest ally’ Jurgen Klopp when he departs at the end of the season.
Still, nothing is definite or confirmed, and the most constructive approach is to keep supporting Nunez as he continues his journey with Liverpool.
