Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez made a goalscoring start as he debuted his daring new look.

Reds supporters caught a glimpse of the forward after he ditched his recognisable ponytail for a buzz cut.

The 26-year-old was on target as Arne Slot's side got their pre-season preparations underway with a 3-1 win over Preston North End.

Nunez doubled the lead shortly after the restart with Conor Bradley netting the opener in the first-half.

Nunez paid homage to Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota with a touching tribute as he mimicked the Portuguese international's crocodile and PlayStation celebration during an emotional afternoon at Deepdale..

The brave switch to short hair comes almost two months after he stunned fans with his new hairstyle after celebrating his 26th birthday.

Nunez posted to Instagram posing with his partner during the celebrations in a carousel of pictures, including one of him sitting in the barber's chair with the razor.

Since arriving from Benfica in a club-record fee in 2022, Nunez has been instantly recognisable for his ponytail and during the Premier League celebrations, he made the switch to cornrows.

He now enters his fourth season at Anfield with a new style.

Nunez found himself coming off the bench regularly during their title win last term after falling out of favour in Slot's selection plans.

The lack of first-team football led to the Uruguayan facing links with a move away from Merseyside, and this summer in particular the uncertainty surrounding his future has been rife.

Napoli launched a transfer offensive to end his time in the Premier League, however reports suggest that after failing to meet Liverpool's demands, they have opted to divert their attention to Udinese talent Lorenzo Lucca.

Nunez was the topic of interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in January but Liverpool rebuffed the approach as they looked to utilise his services for the business end of the campaign.

His time at Anfield has largely been disappointing, after failing to provide the goals return that his £85m deal promised.

Last season, he scored just five goals in 30 Premier League appearances, while his social media activity during the latter stages of the season hinted at friction over his lack of involvement.
