Darwin Núñez has officially said goodbye to Liverpool, leaving behind three memorable years at Anfield, a spell marked by highs, lows, and a Premier League triumph.

The Uruguayan striker, who paid tribute to former teammate Diogo Jota, broke the news via an emotional message to supporters after confirming his transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, which faced a major setback after being barred from a major tournament.

In a direct message to the fans, he said, “Thank you, Liverpool fans, for all the love and support you have given me.

In his farewell Instagram post, Núñez also reflected on the bond he shared with the club and its supporters: “I leave with a full heart, thanks to the love of a crowd that never let me down and always had my back — through the highs and through the lows.”

“Liverpool will always be part of who I am.

The club accepted a $61.9 million offer, a notable loss on what had originally been a significant investment.

Despite that, he departs with silverware, having helped Liverpool secure the Premier League title in 2024–25, along with victories in the FA Community Shield and Carabao Cup.

Among the tributes flooding in, teammate Mohamed Salah shared a heartfelt social media post, writing: “I consider myself lucky to have had you as a teammate and friend

You were always very real and brought so much good energy wherever you went.”

Salah also cheekily posted a photo of himself giving Núñez the middle finger in a sauna on his Instagram Story.

Alexis Mac Allister, another key teammate, also bid farewell with an affectionate note: “I’m really going to miss our talks, mates, roasts, and your craziness

Liverpool, fresh from their title-winning season, is managing departures like Núñez’s to reinvest; they've already made moves for players such as Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and Jérémie Frimpong, while facing competition for targets like Alexander Isak.

Núñez scored 40 goals in 143 appearances for Liverpool but was also criticised for missing a number of clear scoring opportunities during his spell on Merseyside

He now joins Al-Hilal, ending his time at the club with silverware and experience at the top level.
