Darwin Nunez has bid an emotional farewell to Liverpool fans following his move to Al-Hilal.

The Uruguayan joined the Saudi Pro League side last week for an initial £46.2million, potentially rising to £56.6m with add-ons.

Nunez was linked with a January move to Saudi club Al Nassr, but Liverpool rejected their £60m bid, unwilling to sell mid-season.

The striker expressed his wish to leave again this summer, though the Reds also turned down an offer from Napoli earlier in the window.

Nunez leaves Anfield after three years marked by highs and lows, falling short of the expectations set when he arrived.

Despite this, he played a key role in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign last season, even though he started only eight Premier League games and struggled to fully adapt to Arne Slot’s tactics.

Now, he heads to the Middle East as a Premier League champion.

He scored 40 goals in 143 appearances for the Reds across all competitions.

In his debut season for Liverpool, Nunez scored 15 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions and was named the club’s Standard Chartered Player of the Month twice.

He improved his tally the following season, netting 18 goals, including two crucial strikes off the bench at Newcastle United that secured a dramatic early-season comeback.

The 2024-25 campaign became his final one at Anfield, ending with him lifting the Premier League trophy.

Among the season’s standout moments were his two stoppage-time goals to snatch victory at Brentford in January, key contributions in a historic title-winning run.

Nunez has sent a heartfelt message to Liverpool fans, claiming: “I want to thank Liverpool fans for all the love and support you have given me since the first memory of my arrival.

“I will carry it in my heart and wish you all the best this year?

Come on, Liverpool.”
