Darwin Nunez has sent an emotional farewell to Liverpool following his transfer to Al-Hilal.

The forward ended his three-year stint at Anfield this week when he moved to the Saudi Arabian club in a summer of major change at Liverpool.

Despite his mixed on-field displays, Nunez's passionate performances and fiery personality endeared him to supporters, with the 26-year-old a firm fan favorite.

The Uruguayan didn't immediately send a departing message when his move to Al-Hilal was announced, but Nunez posted on social media on Sunday a few hours after the Community Shield loss to Crystal Palace on penalties.

"Thank you, Liverpool," he wrote on X.

To all the staff and team-mates - thank you, and all the very best for the future."

Nunez also posted a four-minute highlight package from his time at Anfield on social media.

Despite featuring in 47 games last season for Liverpool, Nunez mainly played a back-up role for the Reds and started just one of the final 21 Premier League matches of 2024/25.

He played and scored in Monday night's friendly against Athletic Bilbao, his final outing as a Red.

The ex-Benfica man made his Al-Hilal debut on Sunday, scoring in a 6-0 win over Swiss side Aarau.

In a summer of major change at Liverpool, Nunez's exit leaves the Reds light on forward options

With Federico Chiesa also likely to move on, only three senior forwards in Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo are available to Arne Slot.

Other Liverpool transfer outgoings include Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarell Quansah, and Luis Diaz this summer

Kostas Tsimikas is also likely to leave, with the left-back in talks to join Nottingham Forest.

Harvey Elliott and Ben Doak, who were named on the bench against Palace at Wembley, could still be sold, meaning Liverpool's squad looks light on options despite its huge summer spend.

Van Dijk admitted on Sunday that Liverpool could need some further additions, although Slot said he is happy with the options he has at his disposal.
