The striker once again finds himself tied to the transfer intentions of the Saudi Pro League, but now with a hint of desperation added to the mix.

Nunez bought into new head coach Arne Slot's plan for the 2024/25 campaign, though could ultimately return only seven goals across all competitions.

This actually marked a regression from 18 strikes in the previous season and 15 the one before, his debut year in England, both under the watch of Jurgen Klopp.

Amidst this troubling form Liverpool turned down a January window approach from Saudi Arabia about the Uruguayan's signing, hoping not to derail the Premier League title challenge.

Nunez would make his latest start on March 8 against Southampton, also the day of his latest goal, so would not have too great a say in the title race and now the Reds may have a familiar query to respond to, notably with little time to act.

According to talkSPORT, Liverpool's No.9 is one of two stars under a desperate, final consideration by Al-Hilal, who have been seeking a major signing before they partake in this summer's FIFA Club World Cup.

So far their efforts have been foiled by rejections from Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and now Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian, 26, was scorer of 37 whilst on loan at Turkish club Galatasaray in 2024/25, has been linked with an Anfield switch in previous windows.

Additionally, A Bola claim Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres is another who has rejected Al-Hilal's advances

The 27-year-old is another tied to the Reds in rumours having netted 97 times in 102 appearances across the past two seasons.

With Gyokeres' reasoning given as his preference being a move to the Premier League this summer, perhaps the transfer merry-go-round could turn in Liverpool's favour here - but it would have to be quick.

Al-Hilal are in need of wrapping up signings before the window closes on Tuesday night if they are to register them for the Club World Cup.

Perhaps this could be advantageous in attempting to recoup as much of the £85m used to bring Nunez to Anfield from Benfica in 2022, in the knowledge of reports that the Saudi outfit were willing to splash £100m on Fernandes, 30, and then £63m on their alternative striker targets who have rejected them.

Reds chiefs are under no such pressure and are pressing ahead to try and sign Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez at present

Afterwards, when the window reopens on Monday, June 16, a striker could be the next port of call.
