Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez looks set to leave the club this summer(Image: Getty Images)
Napoli's sporting director Giovanni Manna has reportedly held multiple discussions with Darwin Nunez's agents as the Liverpool forward looks closer than ever to leaving the club.
The Uruguayan striker has struggled to justify his eye-watering £85m (including add-ons) price tag that the Reds paid in 2022.
The introduction of Arne Slot this season looked like a chance for Nunez to reset and earn his place as Liverpool's No.1 up-front, but little improvement has been made.
In fact, Nunez's third season at the club has seen him score his lowest tally of goals across a campaign with Liverpool.
Slot has gone public with his unhappiness regarding the 25-year-old's work rate and it is therefore no surprise that the striker has been linked with an exit from Anfield.
Although Saudi Arabia are said to have offered Nunez a number of lucrative deals, the latest reports have Napoli leading the race for the Liverpool player's signature.
Italian media outlet CalcioMercato have stated that Manna has had contact with Nunez's representatives on multiple occasions.
They believe a decision has been made for the striker to leave Liverpool and Napoli offers a 'good opportunity' for Nunez.

The Serie A side are said to receive a definitive answer from Nunez in the next few days.
The Uruguay international's contract at Liverpool doesn't run out until 2028, so the club will receive a fee for their striker.
However, they are unlikely to receive anywhere near the £85m that Jurgen Klopp spent three years ago.

The ECHO reported earlier this year that an offer north of £50m should be suitable for the Reds in regards to covering the amortised cost of Nunez's original fee.
If Napoli are the club to swoop for the Liverpool forward, it could be a quick and awkward reunion for the two parties with both clubs involved in the Champions League next season.
