Dietmar Hamann believes it is a "very good sign" Liverpool have won the Premier League title despite big-money striker Darwin Nunez having made negligible impact this season.
But the Champions League winner admits the Uruguayan now ranks among the biggest transfer mistakes in the club's history.
Nunez has struggled for regular starts since the arrival of Arne Slot as head coach this season, with 29 of his 46 appearances having come from the bench.
The 25-year-old has scored only seven goals in that time and contributed just five to Liverpool's tally of 85 in the top flight as they have romped to the championship.

Overall, Nunez has 40 goals and 22 assists in 142 appearances since arriving from Benfica in 2022 in a deal that could eventually cost Liverpool a club record £85million.
And Hamann said: "Is Darwin Nunez the biggest transfer mistake in Liverpool’s history?
He contributed maybe not as much as others, but sometimes it's easier to swallow when you bring a player in like him, when the team is still successful regardless.
"I think it's a very good sign for the state Liverpool is in at the moment to bring in a forward in for a lot of money and he doesn’t score many goals, but you’re still winning."
Nunez is expected to attract offers from interested clubs this summer, with Spanish side Atletico Madrid and teams from the Saudi Pro League among the reported potential suitors.
Liverpool have now moved level with Manchester United on 20 titles.
And Hamann is convinced the next few years offer an opportunity for the Reds to open up a gap on their bitter North West rivals.
"I’d be very surprised if United won the title in the next five years at least, so it’s about how many Liverpool can get ahead of them in that time," said Hamann, speaking to bettinglounge.co.uk.

"They have a calm manager.
They won the title without signing a player and if they bring in two or three this year then they will be even stronger.
"Arsenal, we don't know whether they're capable of winning the Premier League, Manchester City might come back again but Pep Guardiola won’t be around forever.
"Newcastle are maybe the most likely from the rest to mount a challenge, we don’t know about Chelsea.
I think Liverpool could be five titles ahead before United win their next one, it was once the other away round, now Liverpool fans can enjoy it."
