Darwin Nunez has been recommended for signing by the manager of one of the top Saudi Pro League clubs.

The 26-year-old striker is one of those expected to leave Liverpool this summer.

Though widely loved and appreciated by the Liverpool faithful, Nunez’s time at Anfield appears to be near its end.

The Uruguayan has failed to live up to expectations at Liverpool, and after three seasons, she appears nearer the exit door than a redemption arc at the Red side of Merseyside.

Several reports earlier this summer indicated that Serie A champions Napoli were ahead in the race for his signature and that Nunez had reached an agreement with the Naples club.

However, the transfer seems to have collapsed in the last few days, with  Napoli said to have abandoned the deal due to the price tag Liverpool placed on Nunez.

The Italian club was struggling to meet Liverpool’s valuation of the player, and as a result, the deal has collapsed.

According to a recent report, Napoli are now instead focusing their efforts on signing Udinese striker Lorenzo Lucca, and they are reportedly close to getting that deal over the line.

With Napoli’s reluctance on the deal, Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal now appear in pole position to sign the 26-year-old.

This is according to Arriyadiyah, who revealed that the Saudi giants have opened the doors to Nunez signing after seemingly missing out on primary target Victor Osimhen.

According to the report, Al-Hilal coach Simon Inzaghi personally recommended Nunez for a summer transfer.

“Saudi club Al Hilal has opened the door to signing Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez, a Liverpool player, in response to a request from the team’s new Italian coach, Simone Inzaghi, who recommended signing him if the deal for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, the Napoli striker, failed,” the report revealed.

“According to sources close to Al-Riyadh, Al Hilal’s management has been in contact with its Liverpool counterpart in recent days to ascertain the club’s position on Nunez’s transfer during the current summer transfer window, as it seeks to resolve the foreign striker’s situation before the start of next season?

This move comes after recent renewed negotiations with Osimhen, who had previously rejected a lucrative offer from Al Hilal amounting to €40 million annually during the exceptional transfer window ahead of the Club World Cup, despite reaching a preliminary agreement with his Italian club at the time.

“Al-Hilal are aiming to bolster their attack with a strong foreign striker before the start of the new season, as part of their ambitious plans to compete for all domestic and continental titles.”

Interestingly, the report also added that Serie A giants AC Milan have also made a bid for Nunez.

“Meanwhile, the same sources revealed that Italian club AC Milan had submitted an official offer to Liverpool worth €60 million to purchase Nunez’s contract, putting Al Hilal in direct competition with one of Serie A’s biggest clubs for the 26-year-old striker.”

With several clubs linked with a potential move for Nunez, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Nunez and Liverpool.
