Liverpool legend Luis Suárez has offered words of encouragement to Darwin Núñez after the Uruguayan striker deleted all but one of his Reds-related posts on Instagram.

Núñez is enduring a difficult time of late and has scored just once in the Premier League in over two months.

Núñez has been unfairly targeted on social media and has now also suspended several fan accounts.

Núñez broke his self-imposed social media silence to congratulate Suarez on netting his 500th club goal, referring to him in his post as 'Idolo (idol)', using emojis indicative of admiration and strength.

Suárez thanked him in response, with his post in Spanish translating to: "Thank you scorer for always being there!

He said on Sky Sports: "After two years, when Liverpool is going for the title or in big games, you need your man to score at Old Trafford or at Goodison Park.

He's ground to a halt.

"After two years there's going to be no improvement in him.

He can cause trouble but he's erratic with his finishing - it's not enough to win you trophies so there's a big decision to be made on him."
