The Sweden international has netted 44 goals across the last two Premier League seasons combined and is the club’s only current senior striker.
And with good reason.
Following strong links to Chelsea last summer, the Spain international joined FC Porto from Deportivo Alaves — where he scored eight goals in 34 La Liga matches in 2023/24 — before rampaging in Portugal with 27 goals scored in 45 outings across all competitions.

Only Viktor Gyokeres (39) scored more Primeira Liga goals than Omorodion (19) last season, while the Swede’s strike rate of 1.25 goals per 90 minutes was also the only one better than Samu’s 0.76.
In fact, Omorodion’s haul accounted for just shy of 30% of Porto’s league total last season, while his six goals in the Europa League also left him second in the Golden Boot race for that competition.
Omorodion is a different striker to Isak, offering combining strength, good link-up play and clinical finishing, rather than the speed and dribbling of the current Newcastle centre-forward.

The 21-year-old completed 77.8% of his passes in the Primeira Liga last season, placing him in the top 3% of the competition’s strikers.
He also won 52.1% of his aerial duels, but only completed 0.52 dribbles per 90 minutes — compared to 32.1% and 1.37, respectively, from Isak in the 2024/25 Premier League (FBref).
Already having senior international experience and a phenomenal return at a European giant like Porto, it’s easy to see why Omorodion is so highly regarded.
With that, of course, comes the risk that Newcastle could once again miss out — especially with Aston Villa keeping tabs on his progress.
However, while a very different type of player to Isak, he certainly has the potential to replace his goals and has the skillset to be a huge success in the Premier League.

Figures in excess of £120million have been touted as Liverpool continue to push for the signing of Isak, and it’s a saga that will be anything but straightforward.
In fact, former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore has even touted the Reds to push for a sensational loan deal to get him through the door — likely still at a high price — and kick the can down the road to the next transfer window.
But having pushed hard for Sesko, continuing to do so for Yoane Wissa, and now being strongly linked with the likes of Omorodion and Randal Kolo Muani, it’s clear the Magpies are bracing themselves for the loss of their star man.
It may be better for Eddie Howe to rip off the plaster now and let Isak go, rather than holding on to a player whose heart is elsewhere.
And if they can sign someone of Omorodion’s talent and pedigree to replace him, that decision will become even easier.
