David Moyes must take no chances with one of his most energetic stars as Everton prepare for the Merseyside derby.
Darren England has been appointed for the Toffees’ clash with Liverpool on Saturday, 20 September, and neutral fans from across the country are ready to tune in to the game at Anfield.
Last season’s meetings made for incredible viewing, especially when James Tarkowski rocketed home an equaliser in the eighth minute of added time to seal an emotional goodbye to Goodison Park.
Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones were both sent off after the full-time whistle, while Arne Slot was also shown a red card, which encapsulated everything that supporters expect from the rivalry.
However, that could backfire for Moyes’ side this weekend.
According to BBC Sport, the fixture has seen more red cards than any other in Premier League history, with 11 of those being for Moyes’ side across two spells and 24 games on Merseyside.
That is also the most red cards any team has been handed under a single manager in a Premier League fixture, which does not bode well for the Toffees ahead of their trip to Anfield.

Nobody in the team has received their marching orders for a straight red so far this season, but that could quickly change as the rivals prepare to meet in front of a packed-out crowd.

One player who could be more at risk than anyone else is midfielder Tim Iroegbunam.
Iroegbunam was lucky not to be sent off against Leeds United, and since then, the young midfielder has picked up two cautions in three Premier League games, likely because he was a substitute in the third.
Moyes has been told to hold talks over the 22-year-old’s lack of discipline on the pitch, given that he is a disaster waiting to happen with the way he slides into challenges.
He lasted just 66 minutes against Aston Villa, having picked up a yellow card on the stroke of half-time, and that should be a major concern ahead of the Toffees’ trip across the city.
A win at Anfield is already unlikely based on how the Reds are performing this season, and if the Blues go down to 10 men, they will be faced with an impossible task of securing all three points.
