Alexander Isak’s absence from Newcastle United’s pre-season tour of Singapore – officially attributed to a “minor thigh injury” – has sent ripples through a summer already plagued by speculation over his future.
The club’s public line is steadfast: Isak remains in England to rehabilitate, with staff emphasizing that long-haul travel and a condensed schedule of three games in 12 days would be ill-advised for a player nursing even a minor muscular concern.
But David Ornstein has now challenged that narrative, reporting for the Athletic that Isak himself decided to not embark on the pre-season tour:
“Alexander Isak wants to leave Newcastle United, multiple sources privy to the situation have told The Athletic.”
“The Sweden international’s absence from Newcastle’s pre-season friendly at Celtic and tour to Asia was a preference of the 25-year-old striker, although the club has not confirmed this.”
“Newcastle have been determined to retain Isak on an improved contract — his existing terms run until June 2028 — but are also exploring potential replacements in case he departs.”
