The writing appears to be on the wall for Harvey Elliott, who is looking increasingly likely to depart Anfield this summer in pursuit of regular first-team football.
The England Under-21 star has made it clear that he cannot afford to waste precious years of his career sitting on the bench, despite his deep-rooted love for the club he supported as a boy.
Elliott’s spectacular performances at the European Under-21 Championship, where he was named Player of the Tournament after scoring five goals and helping England retain their crown, have only intensified the spotlight on his precarious position at Liverpool.
The harsh reality of Elliott’s situation became crystal clear under Arne Slot’s management last season, with the Dutchman making just two Premier League starts available to the attacking midfielder.
Furthermore, the 22-year-old made those starts after the Premier League had already been wrapped up.
Elliott managed only 826 minutes of game time across all competitions in 2024-25, a dramatic reduction from the 2,776 minutes he accumulated during Jurgen Klopp’s final season
Now the Athletic have revealed that the Reds either want £40m plus a buy-back option, or above £50m without one.
Writing in the Transfer Dealsheet, David Ornstein reported:
“Liverpool would want any deal for Elliott to produce a fee in excess of £40m plus a buy-back option, or above £50m without one.”
“Elliott has two years left on the contract he signed in 2022 and there is no sign of a new deal.”
“He will want to feature more regularly next season and if a move does materialise, it is likely the Fulham academy graduate will want to operate at an elite — possibly Champions League — level.”
“That could mean going abroad, with Liverpool inserting clauses that give them an element of control or benefit in relation to a future switch.”
