Although the Reds may have signed Giovanni Leoni as a new centre-back this season, the fact that they’ve managed to sign a centre-back of Guehi’s quality for a fee worth around £35million is mesmerising.

Last summer, Crystal Palace were rejecting bids worth around £70million for their captain, but, since he’s now in the final 12 months of his contract, his price tag has been sliced in half.
In fact, he could even be seen as England’s best centre-back at the moment, with John Stones a close second.
And now, as per a report from David Ornstein, it seems like Liverpool have locked the Englishman down for the next five years.

Granted, the Reds have spent over £400million on improving their ranks, but the fact they’ve made so much money from the sales of their players, such as Luis Diaz, means that their net spend isn’t all that much.
In all seriousness, though, major credit needs to be thrown in Hughes’ way because without him and his tough negotiation skills, the Reds would have likely had a much worse window than the one they’ve managed to pull off.
