Liverpool supporters are waiting to see whether their club return to the table after having a huge bid turned down for Alexander Isak.

The Reds are in need of a new centre-forward this summer despite having already signed Hugo Ekitike for an initial £69m.

Isak fits the bill and Liverpool are prepared to break the British transfer record to sign him.

However, Newcastle have so far stood firm on their stance that they will not be selling the Swede this summer.

Not unless Liverpool can stump up £150m.

As Rousing The Kop revealed on Friday, Liverpool have no intention of meeting Newcastle’s asking price, but remain likely to make a second offer to sign him.

In the meantime, all eyes have been on whether Isak would return to training with Newcastle having failed to travel on the club’s pre-season tour.

One of the most fascinating points of Isak’s saga this summer has been that the 25-year-old removed himself from Newcastle altogether earlier this week.

Reports that Isak has been training at the facilities of former club Real Sociedad were confirmed, with Toon fans reacting furiously to the perceived snub.

However, it was claimed that Isak is expected back in Newcastle on Monday in preparation for face-to-face talks with Eddie Howe.

And according to journalist David Ornstein, the Sweden international is set to resume training with his teammates.

“Alexander Isak coming back to UK & will resume training at Newcastle United,” Ornstein reported on X.

Liverpool saw offer for Sweden int’l rejected but interest ongoing.”

While this will surely be seen as good news for Newcastle, it does not necessarily mean that Isak is more or less likely to leave.

What may be more of a factor is whether the Magpies are able to follow up on their interest and sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

Reports from Slovenia on Friday evening suggest that Sesko had chosen to join Newcastle amid interest from Manchester United, but those appear to have been slightly premature.

Either way, it has since been confirmed that Newcastle have submitted a formal offer for Sesko, and if he does arrive in the north East it will be seen as a big boost to Liverpool’s chances of landing Isak.
