David Raya was left visibly stunned when he was beaten by Dominik Szoboszlai’s long-range free-kick as Liverpool defeated Arsenal 1-0 on Sunday.

Defending Premier League champions Liverpool made a statement by beating title challengers Arsenal in their third top-flight game on 31 August.

Arne Slot’s men are the only Premier League side who have enjoyed a 100 per cent winning record this season, ahead of September’s international break.

Meanwhile, Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Alexander Isak is increasingly likely to stay at Newcastle United, amid strong transfer interest from Liverpool.

The Gunners appeared set to draw at Anfield before Szoboszlai’s stunning set-piece earned a 1-0 win for Liverpool in the 83rd minute.

Szoboszlai’s effort led Raya to puff his cheeks in disbelief as the North Londoners conceded in the Premier League for the first time this term.

Mikel Arteta’s men will look to bounce back from the setback they suffered in the North West when they host Nottingham Forest on 13 September.

Arteta has taken Arsenal close to the Premier League title in recent seasons, as the North London outfit have finished second in the top flight in each of the last three campaigns.

Meanwhile, the Emirates Stadium side enjoyed a strong start to the season by beating Manchester United 1-0 before thrashing Leeds United 5-0 on 23 August.

However, in their first game against a direct title rival, Arsenal were beaten 1-0 by Liverpool, leaving questions over whether Arteta is the right man to lead them to Premier League glory.

The Spaniard has not won silverware with the Gunners since their FA Cup triumph back in 2020, while Slot’s side have made a strong start to the new season as they vie to retain their crown.

Arsenal have strengthened in the summer transfer window by signing players like former Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze and fellow England international Noni Madueke.

However, the early stages of the Premier League season indicate that Liverpool are still the team to beat.
