talkSPORT understands that Marc Guehi understood the decision for him to stay at Crystal Palace.

He is believed to have acted very professionally through the saga, speaking directly to Oliver Glasner and owner Steve Parish.

However, talkSPORT's Danny Murphy thinks that the Palace captain will be fuming that the deal hasn't gone through.

"I think Guehi will be devastated," Murphy told talkSPORT.

"I'm sure Liverpool will go back in January, but there is a chance that this opportunity won't come for him again.

"He could do his ACL, he may not get this chance in his life again."

Murphy added: "Sometimes, an opportunity comes in your life that you have to do whatever it takes to get it.

"He made it easy for Palace to keep him...if he'd done what Isak and Wissa had done..."

talkSPORT understands that a deal sheet has been submitted for Marc Guehi to join Liverpool.

Crystal Palace have bought themselves an extra two hours to get the deal done, with the transfer still possible.

"This is going to happen, Marc Guehi to Liverpool."

The deal sheet allows a club to confirm that an agreement has been reached before the deadline, giving them more time to submit further confirmation of the move.

Palace have just announced the arrival of Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse as a new centre-back option.
