Crystal Palace star Dean Henderson may have been the hero as the Eagles won the FA Cup on Saturday, but his tussle with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola also calls to mind a stand-off he had with another Premier League manager.

The Palace keeper, 28, was the star of the show at Wembley Stadium, making numerous saves, including one from the penalty spot, to help his side win their first-ever major trophy.

Yet at the end of the game, Guardiola could be seen exchanging heated words with the England international over reported time-wasting.

Henderson looks to have finally found his footballing home after spending several seasons out on loan while being on the books at Manchester United.

And it was former United boss Erik ten Hag who faced the brunt of Henderson's anger when the Dutchman contacted the England star over his future in 2023.

Ten Hag spoke to Henderson, who was then on loan at Nottingham Forest, in an attempt to bring him back to United after Martin Dubravka's loan spell at the Red Devils came to an end and he returned to Newcastle.

Henderson had been informed that his development would be better served if he returned to his parent club instead of continuing at the City Ground.

Ten Hag finally got in contact with his wantaway goalkeeper, almost seven months after taking charge at United, with the keeper having reportedly 'p****d off' Ten Hag by absconding to Forest before he could have a chat with him.

The Dutchman's conversation with Henderson was reported to be a brief affair, however, with the shot-stopper point-blank refusing to go back to Old Trafford as he desperately wanted out of the club in a bid to secure first-team football.

Speaking back upon Ten Hag's arrival in August 2022 to talkSport, Henderson detailed how he actually avoided United's then-new manager, running the former Ajax head coach's wrath.

"I didn't want the manager (Ten Hag) to come in and be able to see me in training," he said.

His United future soured further when he was expected to take over as United's first-choice goalkeeper following David De Gea's difficult campaign in 2020.

However, after contracting Covid-19, Henderson once again found himself out in the cold at Old Trafford.

But I worked hard off the pitch and on the training pitch to keep improving day in, day out."

After loan spells at Stockport County, Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury Town, Sheffield United and Forest, Henderson eventually ended his United limbo by sealing a switch to Palace, thought to be in the region of £20 million.
