Real Madrid signing Dean Huijsen instead of the Bournemouth defender joining Liverpool could benefit the Reds going forward.

Huijsen, 20, has reportedly attracted the attention of several Premier League clubs after a standout debut season since arriving from Italy last summer.

The acceptance that a £50m release clause in Huijsen's six-year contract which was signed when he joined from Juventus, soon made it apparent that another move would materialise 12 months on.



Fabrizio Romano reports on Thursday morning (May 15) that the player's representatives are in Madrid to close their deal with Los Blancos.

They claim that both clubs have already agreed on a payment structure in three instalments to cover the transfer fee before the end of next year.

The club's reputed next head coach, Xabi Alonso, has reportedly accelerated the Huijsen deal.

But, if that is the case, the one-time Reds midfielder may have fortuitously also helped out his former club.

That is because Huijsen is not the only central defender linked to Madrid.

Ibrahima Konate is notably another, as well as William Saliba of Arsenal and Manchester United's Leny Yoro.

However, despite their interest in Huijsen, the blow of losing out to Madrid will be lessened due to the likelihood of their existing central defenders staying and potentially signing extensions.

With the prospect of Konate moving in the same direction of travel as Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer, there looks to be a silver lining to take from Huijsen heading to Madrid.
