The agent of Real Madrid player Dean Huijsen has claimed that Liverpool expressed an interest in signing the defender.

The Reds were credited with an interest in signing Huijsen during his time at Bournemouth after an impressive debut campaign in the Premier League.

Huijsen eventually completed a £50million switch to Madrid, which ended any speculation that Liverpool could sign the Spain international.

The defender has since gone on to make five appearances for the La Liga giants, but has already picked up a red card in his previous outing against Real Sociedad last weekend.

Liverpool made their desire to sign a new centre-back known in the final days of the summer transfer window, with Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace and England a target for the Reds.

Despite that, Huijsen's agent, Ali Barat, has claimed that Liverpool made an attempt to sign Huijsen before the defender instead chose to move to the Spanish capital.

"We always thought Real Madrid would come in; Dean is a fantastic player and after two games with the national team, Juni [Calafat] contacted us, and everything moved very quickly, honestly," Barat told Spanish newspaper AS, via Sport Witness.

"Absolutely.

When they [Madrid] came along, it was an easy decision.

"There were many clubs, but with Real Madrid [in for him], there was no doubt."

Barat went on to claim that Liverpool were not the only Premier League, or European club, to express an interest in Huijsen this year.

"Chelsea wanted him, even since January," Barat added.

"They were the first big club really interested, but Bournemouth didn’t want to sell in January.

"And his release clause wasn't active then, only in the summer.

"And of course, after playing for Spain's national team, we had about seven big clubs - Bayern [Munich], Liverpool, Tottenham, Newcastle.

They all wanted Dean, to be honest."
