Earlier this season, it emerged that Liverpool were planning to hold a parade to honour the immense service Jurgen Klopp made during his nine-year tenure.

Emotions were running high after his announcement in January, and talks on a planned parade began after Liverpool secured a record 10th League Cup in mid-February.

However, since then, the season has not exactly gone according to plan – and indeed what almost felt like a prophecy for the German leaving with a arm full of trophies.

But the defeat to Manchester United in the fifth-round of the FA Cup before the March international break initially looked like just a bruising blow – with the Premier League and Europa League still in sight.

Atalanta had other ideas, recording a famous 3-0 win at Anfield to secure passage to the semi-finals of the Europa League at Liverpool’s expense.

Things went from bad to worse following a 1-0 humbling at home to Crystal Palace in the Premier League, severly denting their title aspirations.

Then, defeat in the Merseyside derby all but ruled Liverpool out of the title race – even if it is still mathematically possible to win.

Liverpool parade called off

According to a club-connected journalist (via The Liverpool Offside), Liverpool have decided to call off the planned trophy parade.

The club had reportedly prepared contingency plans for various dates, hinging on their potential achievements in the Premier League or Europa League.

These plans needed to be approved in advance by the Liverpool City Council.

Nonetheless, all these plans have been scrapped due to results in recent weeks – with the prospect of finishing the season with a League Cup now all but a reality.

Although many fans would support a parade, Klopp was keen not to make the final season about himself.

For the parade plans to proceed, Liverpool would need to win the league.

This would require them to win their final three games, while Arsenal would have to lose two of their last three, and Manchester City would need to lose two and draw one of their final four games.

Of course this is highly unlikely, so we can safely assume there will be no parade.

The Reds have twice held parades around the city under Jurgen Klopp, once after winning the Champions League in 2019 and another time in 2022 after doing a domestic cup double.
