Declan Rice and William Saliba react as teammate posts 'unforgettable' Arsenal farewell message

Tue 2 September 2025 14:42, UK

Mikel Arteta’s defensive rebuild at Arsenal is complete after Jakub Kiwior completed a loan-to-buy move away from the Emirates.

The Gunners finalised an expensive summer of business with the signing of Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen, who arrived at Arsenal on a season-long loan deal which includes a £45million option to buy.

Hincapie’s move to the Emirates will not only take Arsenal‘s transfer outlay beyond £290m if he is signed permanently, but also provides Arteta with additional cover in central defence and at left-back this term.

Cristhian Mosquera’s £13m move from Valencia had already bolstered Arsenal’s centre-back stocks, and Hincapie’s arrival gave Arteta the green light to sanction exits for both Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kiwior.

Arsenal’s deadline day business saw them confirm Hincapie’s arrival but also see four players head the other way, with Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira also departing on loan deals which include options to buy.

Kiwior’s move to Porto, however, comes with an obligation to buy of £14.7million on top of a £17.m loan fee, after Arsenal had hoped to raise over £25m from the Poland international’s permanent departure.

With his time at the Emirates all-but over, Kiwior posted on Instagram with a message to Arsenal fans, which said: “I would like to thank all the people and fans I met along my journey at Arsenal.

Football Insider Verdict

With over £245million spent this summer and Hincapie’s potential transfer fee set to add further to that, Arteta can’t argue that he hasn’t been given the tools to finally deliver a Premier League title at Arsenal.

Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze all have the capability of leading the Gunners to the title after their big-money moves to the Emirates, but they already trail in the title race.

Arteta’s side failed to convince in a 1-0 defeat to defending champions Liverpool as Dominik Szoboszlai struck the first real blow of the new season, but with Hincapie and all their new signings, the time is now for Arsenal to go all the way.
