Gabriel has been central to Arsenal’s defensive strength in recent seasons, particularly in the 2024/25 campaign when Mikel Arteta’s side conceded the fewest goals in the league.

His absence was felt in the run-in last term, as Gabriel suffered a season-ending hamstring injury that ruled him out of crucial fixtures against Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

This summer, however, has marked both recovery and renewal for the Brazilian defender.

He has committed his future to the Gunners as Gabriel signed a new contract at Arsenal that extends his stay until 2029.

As recognition of his outstanding performances last season, the centre-back has now been rewarded for his contributions – a moment celebrated by his teammates and fans alike.

After another outstanding season with Arsenal, Gabriel has been recognised with a place in the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Team of the Year for 2024/25.

The Brazilian defender marked the achievement with a heartfelt Instagram post, writing: “An honour to in the Team of the Year again!” while tagging Arsenal alongside a heart emoji.

His post quickly drew reactions from teammates, with Declan Rice — also included in the Team of the Year — commenting: “King of Brazil!” while Martin Zubimendi, Leandro Trossard and William Saliba all showed their support by liking the announcement.

Gabriel had attracted interest from Saudi Pro League clubs earlier in the summer, but he remains a central figure in Arteta’s plans and has already signed a long-term extension before the new season begun.

While Arsenal strengthened their defensive ranks with the signing of Christhian Mosquera, Gabriel’s importance to the team remains clear, underlined by his return to the starting XI in the opening weekend win over Manchester United.

While several Arsenal players have earned recognition for their performances, one player continues to be linked with an exit.

Football Insider have revealed that West Ham have opened talks for Fabio Vieira, in a possible late move in the final weeks of the window.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Porto but struggled to make an impression and has now been deemed surplus to requirements by Arteta.

German side Stuttgart have also been in contact over a possible deal, but it is understood that the Hammers have Vieira on their list of targets.

Whether they follow through before the window closes remains to be seen.
