Liverpool supporters are hoping to see a couple more signings come through the door before next Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Reds have done some good business this summer, but must end the window strongly to give themselves the best chance of retaining the Premier League title.

'Definitely': Arne Slot transfer target openly admits he already has some very good friends in Liverpool

Part of that will be bolstering a Liverpool defence which has looked surprisingly porous throughout the start of the season.

Liverpool were not always completely secure at the back during Arne Slot‘s debut season in the Premier League, but they tended to assert a measure of control over most games.

We may only be two matches in but the Reds have so far looked far too open.

Talks are continuing for Liverpool to sign Guehi, and as he prepares to potentially land on Merseyside, the centre-back has admitted he already knows people in the city.

It is a strange quirk of Liverpool history that English players from London do not tend to do so well for the Reds.

If you think of the best English stars who have played for the club, most of them tend to be Scousers, or at least Northerners.

There is an adaptation for those coming up from the capital in a similar way to players joining the club from abroad.

Not everyone can manage it.

While the same concerns may linger over Guehi, though, the 25-year-old has revealed that he does have some good friends in Liverpool – as well as Manchester – which may aid any settling in period.

“I don’t have many friends,” Guehi told BBC Sport when asked if he is a generally sociable person.

“And all my friends are in different countries or they live in Manchester, Liverpool, so it’s hard to connect.

But if people have time then I’ll definitely be there.”

Given the fact he is an England international of some repute and a Premier League captain, Guehi will already be fairly well known to Liverpool supporters.

However, his sit-down interview with BBC Sport this weekend will give fans an even better insight into who the former Chelsea youngster is as a person.

He reveals his favourite film: “Limitless, Bradley Cooper.

I don’t have one but I really want one, I think that’s a really good way to just enjoy music and just escape.” And that he also DJs a little in his spare time: “I try to [DJ], I’m not saying I’m any good before someone gets me DJing somewhere.”

The Liverpool squad is generally close-knit anyway, which always helps new arrivals bed in.

But with friends in the city and a seemingly easy-going, curious personality, Guehi should have no trouble adapting to life with the Reds.
