Rasmus Hojlund has been left out of the Man United squad to face Arsenal on 17 August after being told he faces a challenge to play first-team minutes this season.
Ruben Amorim‘s decision signals an imminent end to the 22-year-old’s time at Old Trafford, with the club now making clear their desire for him to move on.
Hojliund had previously spoken about his plans to remain at Man United to prove himself and fight for his place in the side, but that idea has been dismissed.
This comes after former United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that offers for Hojlund will be accepted following the arrival of Benjamin Sesko.
A number of clubs are believed to have been keeping a close eye on his situation, with AC Milan leading fellow Serie A clubs in the race for his signature.

According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Hojlund’s time at Man United is now “definitely over” as the club have sent a clear message about his role in the squad.
He will not play a role in the club’s opening Premier League fixture against Arsenal at Old Trafford, with Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Chido Obi Martin the preferred options.

Amorim’s side are now pushing for the Denmark international to move on and are open to either a loan or permanent move before the transfer window closes on 1 September.
Football Insider revealed on 16 August that AC Milan are closing in on signing Hojlund, but United may have to accept loan offers rather than a permanent deal.
Milan are unwilling to meet the Red Devils’ £40million valuation of the striker, and instead are pushing to agree a loan move with an option or obligation to buy next year.
Since his £72million move from Atalanta in 2023, Hojlund has struggled to impress under both Erik Ten Hag and Amorim, finding himself frequently left out of the starting XI.
In 95 appearances, he has found the net just 26 times and averaged a goal every 246.5 minutes despite initial expectations that he could solve United’s striker issues.
Under Amorim, he has found the net just eight times in 40 appearances, leading to major concerns.

Brown told Football Insider in March that Hojlund has no future at Man United after an “alarming” failure to make improvements to his game since joining the club.
Difficulties adapting to a new style of play under Amorim heightened those concerns, while the deal has been labelled “unthinkable” considering his return on United’s investment.
