Most Liverpool fans are aware that it’s being touted that Arne Slot will be backed in the upcoming summer transfer window.

While numerous players have been linked with moves to Anfield, the status of several squad members remains uncertain.

Slot has faced criticism for his squad rotation, with Jamie Carragher suggesting the manager lacks full confidence in his entire roster.

Wataru Endo is among those who must decide whether to remain at Liverpool as a backup or seek more regular playing time elsewhere, especially with the 2026 World Cup approaching and Japan already qualified.

Federico Chiesa’s future is also unclear.

Signed from Juventus last summer, the Italian winger has struggled to make an impact in a campaign dominated by Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz on the flanks.

Perhaps the most discussed potential departure is Harvey Elliott.

After making 34 league appearances last season, the 21-year-old has seen his minutes drastically reduced to just 225 minutes across 13 substitute appearances and one start this term – a stark contrast to his heavy involvement under Klopp.

But one man who has been all but forgotten on Merseyside is Nat Phillips.

Phillips’ Liverpool legacy was forged during one of the club’s most injury-ravaged seasons during 2020/21.

With Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip sidelined, the then-23-year-old stepped up unexpectedly, making 17 Premier League appearances.

Partnering Rhys Williams, Phillips became a symbol of resilience, helping Liverpool secure Champions League qualification with a third-place finish despite the odds.

Since that breakthrough campaign, Phillips has become a perennial loanee, shuffled between clubs without a pathway back to Liverpool’s first team:

2021/22: Bournemouth (17 apps, promotion to Premier League)?

2022/23: Celtic (6 apps), Cardiff City (18 apps, 1 goal)

2024/25: Derby County (32 apps, 1 goal, 9 clean sheets)

But it seems he may have finally found a home at Derby after they secured their survival in the Championship with a 0-0 draw with Stoke City on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, manager John Eustace hopes he can secure the Reds defender on a free signing with the 28-year-old seeing his Liverpool deal expire at the end of the season.

And asked if he would like to keep him, Eustace said (via Derbyshire Live):

“Yeah, for sure

I think he’s been outstanding and his performances have been very good.”

“The match-winning header last week [in a 1-0 victory over Hull City] was awesome.”

It has long been clear that Nat Phillips is not viewed as a long-term option at Anfield.

He has not featured for Liverpool’s first team since the FA Cup third-round replay against Wolves in January 2023,
