Brighton midfielder Diego Gomez shared an emotional post after he stole the headlines with his stunning four-goal performance in the Carabao Cup.

Brighton cruised past Barnsley following a 6-0 win away from home at Oakwell Stadium to earn a place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Much of the talk has surrounded midfielder Gomez, who scored four goals, including a spectacular hat-trick in the first-half.

Substitutes Harry Howell and Yasin Ayari were also on target for the Seagulls, as they reached the competition’s last 16 for the fifth time in the last six seasons.

Now, Gomez has shared a heartfelt response on social media following his unforgettable performance.

Gomez posted on Instagram with multiple pictures of his latest display, and a message to the supporters that read: “First 4 goals in my career … a day that I will never forget.

And to the effort of the whole team for this step”.

Plenty of his players shared support to the post with Georgino Rutter posted a heart and raised hand emoji, while former teammate Julio Enciso, who agreed to controversially sign for BlueCo, commented with “Hermano”.

The midfielder signed for the club from Inter Miami, and while Gomez has been inconsistent for Brighton and a rotational option so far, he showed his quality against Barnsley.

Although he plays naturally in central midfield, Gomez started on the right flank, where he flourished in the attacking third.

He has made 25 appearances since joining in the winter window in all competitions, netting six times and providing one assist.

While Fabian Hurzeler has deployed the Paraguayan midfielder in midfield, his performance may have shown the manager where he could thrive in the future.

However, Minteh is the preferred option on the right wing and has continued to impress, and with Jack Hinshelwood injured, Gomez could be put back into midfield.

However, Hurzeler has come under pressure at Brighton after the club’s latest performances, and with Chelsea up next on 27 September, Gomez could force his way into the starting line-up ahead of Minteh.
