Liverpool’s opening Premier League match against Bournemouth this Friday will be marked by deeply emotional tributes to late forward Diogo Jota, with his wife Rute Cardoso and their three young children expected to attend the poignant season opener.

The Portuguese forward had married Rute just eleven days before the fatal accident, with the couple celebrating their wedding on June 22.

Their three children – four-year-old Dinis, two-year-old Duarte, and a baby daughter born in November 2024 – have been at the center of an outpouring of support from the football community.

Liverpool has announced extensive tribute arrangements for the season opener, including a fan mosaic and minute of silence before kickoff.

Special matchday programme features have been dedicated to honoring both Jota and his brother Andre Silva, with the front cover of the Bournemouth edition paying tribute to the brothers.

Arne Slot has confirmed that the family will be attendance, writing in his programme notes for the Friday night clash:

“As I have said previously, the tributes that have been paid throughout the football world, and especially within the LFC community, have been truly special, and I know that tonight we will come together to honour them once more,” the Dutchman wrote.

“I believe that Diogo’s wife, his children and his family will be in attendance and it is important that, as a club, we show that they will always have our love and support as they deal with this most tragic of situations.”

“We are there for them always.”

The tribute extends beyond Liverpool, with all Premier League matches this weekend featuring moments of silence in memory of Jota and Andre Silva.

Players across all clubs will wear black armbands, while messaging and imagery will be shared on big screens throughout stadiums.

Liverpool’s Community Shield match against Crystal Palace at Wembley on August 10 provided an early glimpse of the emotional tributes, with wreaths laid on the pitch and a minute of silence observed, though the tribute was briefly disrupted by some Palace supporters.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are set to donate a share of their Club World Cup bonuses to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva’s family in a classy move by the London club.
