Diogo Jota was a truly phenomenal footballer and will always be remembered.

The news of Jota’s tragic death has shocked the footballing community, highlighting just how short and cruel life can sometimes be.

The Portuguese international was a vital player for the Reds ever since he joined from Wolves in 2020, with the forward known for his clinical finishing and tireless work rate.

The tributes paid to Jota show what a wonderful human being he really was, with the 28-year-old leaving an everlasting impression despite the short period of time he had on the planet.

Although he should be remembered for what he was like as a person above anything else, his footballing legacy will live on forever, and there is one record he holds at Liverpool that will likely never be broken.

Some forwards score tonnes of goals in their career but some are rather meaningless.

Jota’s goals were always important.

He may not have scored the most in Liverpool history but he has some of their most crucial goals in recent times, with the Reds never actually losing a league game in which he scored.

Jota scored in 40 separate Premier League matches for the Reds, winning 33 of them and drawing just seven, with this telling you all you need to know about the impact he had.

Although they have done it across multiple clubs, there are only two players who have a better record; Gabriel Jesus and James Milner.

The Brazilian has scored in 62 games without tasting defeat, while Milner has a record of 54 matches.

However, Jota’s record reflects solely on his time at Anfield and it will likely never be beaten, highlighting just how good, and vital, a player he really was.

The 28-year-old was comfortable using both feet and even his head, with his aerial ability surprisingly good for a player who was just five feet, ten inches tall.

Statistics may add a little extra bit of information to suggest how good an individual was, but the eye test can tell you all you need to know.

Jota was clinical, to the extent where if he got a chance in and around the box, the majority of Liverpool fans knew where the ball was going.

In fact, Jamie Carragher even went as far as labelling him as the best finisher at Liverpool for quite some time, even better than some of the all-time greats that he has played with himself.

“I think of some of the strikers I’ve played alongside: Michael Owen, Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres, Robbie Fowler.

I think he [Jota] is the best finisher,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“Robbie (Fowler) maybe [could be ahead of him] in terms of pure finishing, hard and low, into the corner.

But [his two goals against Bournemouth are] typical Jota.
