Jota scored on his debut in the 3-1 win against Arsenal and also netted the club’s 10,000th goal against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League.

However, keeping in tone with the general pattern of the season, Jota suffered an injury in the run-up to Christmas, and missed more than two months of action through a bruised knee.

The Portuguese international signed for Liverpool from Wolves last September in a £41 million plus bonuses deal, and made an instant impact at the club.

"Well, it wasn't what we wanted, meaning what Portugal wanted," Jota said as he reflected on the summer with Liverpool’s official website.

While the 24-year-old produced a credible first season at the club, everything is set in place for Jota to really kick on in his second.

Jota’s performances were somewhat sub-par for his country at Euro 2020.

Utilised as a left winger in Fernando Santos’ restricted 4-3-3 set up, Jota scored in 4-2 loss against Germany in the group stage, but was helpless as Portugal relinquished their control of the Henri Delaunay trophy, following their defeat against Belgium in the round of 16.
