Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died in a car accident.

On Instagram Jota shared a video of him and wife Rute on their special wedding day.

Rute later officially announced the special news on her Instagram account.

Liverpool FC said in a statement on the club website said: "Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.

"The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.

Gary Neville said: "That is heartbreaking news on Diogo Jota and his brother.

All my love and best wishes to his family."

Sharing a black and white photo of Jota to Instagram, Jamie Carragher wrote: "Absolutely heartbroken by the sad news about Diogo Jota", alongside a heartbreak emoji.

He added: "Thoughts are with his wife Rute and their three kids."

Robbie Fowler shared a photo of Jota celebrating one of the many goals he scored in a Red shirt.

The statement reads: "Everyone at Everton is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva following a road traffic accident in Spain.

"Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this desperately sad time."
