Tributes have been paid across Liverpool and beyond for LFC forward Diogo Jota, who has died in a car accident.

In a statement this morning, July 3, Liverpool Football Club said: "Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.

"The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.



Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.

"We will continue to provide them with our full support." The Portugal international married long-time partner Rute Cardoso on June 22 and together they have three children.

Jota signed for Liverpool FC from Wolves back in September 2020.

His brother, who is two years younger, was a professional for Portuguese second-tier team Penafiel.

It was Jurgen Klopp who sanctioned the move for the then 23-year-old in 2020 after it emerged Wolves were willing to sell the Portugal international.

He had been on holiday after helping Portugal win the UEFA Nations League last month.
