Rute Cardoso has shared a message to mark the anniversary of her husband and former Liverpool player Diogo Jota joining the club.
The much-loved forward tragically died at the age of just 28 in a road traffic accident in July 2025.
Amid the huge outpouring of love for Jota, who passed away alongside his brother Andre Silva in the tragedy, the club confirmed the retirement of his jersey across all of its teams and forever, it will be connected to Jota always.
The Portuguese had proved a vital part of the Liverpool squad after joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers in September 2020.
Today marks five years since Jota joined the reigning Premier League champions.
On Instagram, Rute posted the original post from the day he joined back in 2020.
The post was captioned "You’ll never walk alone, that’s for sure" and showed her and the striker holding a Liverpool top with "Diogo J." on the back, as well as the 20 number that became forever synonymous with the player.
Captioning the post, Rute, today wrote "Há 5 anos", which roughly translates to "5 years ago" in English from Portuguese.
Liverpool Football Club also shared a post in memory of their number 20.
The post said: "On this day in 2020, Diogo Jota became a Red.
The song references Jota's Liverpool shirt number and style of play, making a comparison with legendary Portugal star Luis Figo.
When Jota signed five years ago, Klopp said: "He is a player who gives us so many options to use.
