Dirk Kuyt has been ruled out of the running to replace John Heitinga on Liverpool's coaching staff under Arne Slot.

Heitinga left at the end of last month after a year at Anfield as assistant coach having been named as new boss of former club Ajax in Holland.

Liverpool continue to consider their alternatives as they look to recruit a replacement ahead of the squad reconvening for pre-season in early July, with a number of names expected to be in the frame.

The shortlist, though, will not include former Reds forward Kuyt, who is likely to depart as Beerschot manager in the coming weeks after their relegation from the Belgian Juliper Pro League.

"No, it will be a different assistant manager," said his agent Rob Jansen, speaking on the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp.

Liverpool's assistant will be someone else.

"It would have been great for Dirk.

He would have loved to go to Liverpool.

Assistant there is of course a serious level."

Several names have been linked to the vacant position.

Marino Pusic was assistant to Slot at both AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord and is available after this month leaving his post as Shakhtar Donetsk manager having won the domestic double in 2023/24 and the Ukrainian Cup this season.

And Etienne Reijnen, the current Feyenoord assistant coach, had initially been slated to join Slot at Anfield last summer until the move was scuppered due to work permit issues.
