Former Liverpool man Dirk Kuyt has offered his take on Arne Slot becoming the new manager for the Anfield club.

The Feyenoord boss is now firmly the favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season, with the two clubs said to be in negotiations with one another.

Richard Hughes is reportedly playing a key role in the current negotiations.

From Feyenoord’s perspective, their technical director, Dennis te Kloese, who is highly respected in the football community, is leading the discussions.

The Dutch club appreciates that Liverpool waited until after the KNVB Cup final to make their approach, a gesture that has made a positive impression.

Arne Slot’s Feyenoord recently clinched the Dutch Cup with a 1-0 victory over NEC last Sunday, further enhancing his resume.

Last season, the 45-year-old manager guided his team to their first Eredivisie title in six years.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Reds offered €9m, which was subsequently rejected by the Rotterdam club.

It is understood that Feyenoord want closer to 15m to sanction Slot’s move to Anfield.

What did Dirk Kuyt say about Arne Slot?

Dirk Kuyt, manager of Belgium side Beerschot in the second division, has provided his take on Arne Slot becoming the new manager.

He started his managerial journey with Dutch side ADO Den Haag but was relieved from his duties after only 16 games at the helm.

The 43-year-old was then picked up by Beerschot, where Kuyt had the challenge of returning the club back to Belgium’s topflight.

And he has done just that, with Beerschot securing automatic promotion earlier this month.

Speaking to The Athletic, Kuyt said:

“He’s a manager who likes to help younger coaches like me and it says a lot about the type of person he is that he’s willing to share his thoughts and vision so openly,” the ex-Liverpool man said – having shadowed Slot for a week around this time last year.

“The timing was perfect as it was just before Feyenoord became Dutch champions.”

“Watching his training sessions was so interesting in terms of the drills and how he prepares his team.”

“Arne loves the game and thinks about football 24/7.”

“That passion shines through when he speaks.

What people like most in Holland, where his reputation is so high, is that he has his own vision, his style of play.”

Kuyt added:

“Nowadays managers always get compared?

Is it the Jurgen Klopp style?

Is it the Jose Mourinho style.

Is it the Pep Guardiola style?”

“The answer is that Slot has his own style.
