'Disgraceful' - Ray Parlour appalled by what Arsenal fans did to one of their players before he proved them wrong

Tue 16 September 2025 10:43, UK

Arsenal supporters have been completely proven wrong by one player who divided opinion with his recent arrival at the Emirates Stadium.

Viktor Gyokeres opened his Arsenal account against Leeds United, and the Swedish striker was seen as the final piece to Mikel Arteta‘s puzzle ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

The signings of Piero Hincapie, Eberechi Eze, and Martin Zubimendi all got fans off their seats, and so far, splashing the cash appears to be working, with the Gunners sitting second in the league table.

Arsenal have a key clash with Athletic Club in the Champions League before facing Man City at home, and one star, who was never actually wanted by the fans, could make all the difference in those two games.

As news emerged of the Gunners wanting to sign Noni Madueke, supporters began creating a petition to reject the transfer.

This decision appears to have completely backfired for the star’s doubters.

“Some of us Arsenal fans need to hold our hands up…” Arsenal fan Joel Beya said on talkSPORT (16 September), to which Jeff Stelling asked: “Did you sign the petition?”

After Beya adamantly denied it, Ray Parlour said, “That was disgraceful.

You can’t do petitions before a player has even turned up.”

Beya continued: “He’s probably been the best right winger in the league this season.”

Parlour concurred, saying: “He’s very direct, he’s very quick, but it’s that end product.

If he can improve that a little bit, he’s going to be the real deal.”

Bukayo Saka picked up an injury against Leeds, going on to miss fixtures against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, but the Gunners have been more than comfortable with Madueke on the wing.

While Madueke has not scored or assisted for the North London side since moving from Stamford Bridge, his energy on the pitch has been contagious, and he has been a problem for the opposition.

Of course, many supporters are expecting Saka to go straight back into the lineup once he is fit enough, having notched 25 goal contributions last season, but it might not be that simple.

Arteta has multiple competitions to keep in mind for the 2025-26 campaign, and with pressure on the Spaniard to win silverware, he needs to be picking on form rather than favourites.

Madueke needs to take the next couple of fixtures in his stride, finally bagging his first goal contribution in Arsenal colours.
