The work will see a governor, a piece of equipment which manages gas pressure, upgraded in an effort to modernise the network.

From this Friday, workers from Cadent will begin work overhauling facilities at the junction between Lower Breck Road and Rocky Lane.

Anyone who smells gas during this work, nearby or anywhere, is urged to ring the national gas emergency service immediately on 0800 111 999.
