Former Liverpool forward Djibril Cisse has warned the club’s new signing, Hugo Ekitike, about the intensity of the Premier League.
Speaking about the deal and Ekitike’s future in Liverpool, he also commented on the success of French players in England and Liverpool.
Having secured the services of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez earlier in the summer transfer window, the club signed Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a £79m deal.
With impressive performances last season and major summer signings, Liverpool remains the number one favourite to win the Premier League this season.
Major sportsbooks are already giving the club the highest odds to win the EPL in the 25/26 season.
Non-Gamstop UK betting sites have emerged as their go-to place for doing so, with competitive odds and exclusive promotions that aren’t always available on UK-licensed platforms.
How Ekitike and other new signings adapt in England could make all the difference for Liverpool this season.
As the club looks to repeat the success from last year, the pressure will be on new players to succeed.
Djibril Cisse, who spent two seasons with the Reds between 2004 and 2006, has now said that Ekitike should expect the Premier League to be a different experience from what he’s used to in France and Germany.
Cisse said that in the Bundesliga, he might have had more freedom to express himself and that the intensity of the game in England may come as a shock to the young striker.
The former France international further commented on the success of French players in the Premier League, saying that they had truly left a mark in clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea, but not so much in Liverpool.
During his one full season at Eintracht Frankfurt, he scored 22 goals and made 12 assists, helping the club secure third place in the league and qualification to the Champions League.
Cisse also commented on Ekitike’s style of play, saying he’s the only target man currently in the squad, with Darwin Nunez set to leave the club before the transfer window closes.
Another French legend, Frank Lebouf, also commented on the transfer recently, saying that he’s going to serve the club in the best way possible and prove the hefty fee Liverpool paid for him?
Lebouf added that he showed glimpses of what he can do even before he left Paris Saint-Germain, but struggled to break into the team with Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe all playing for the club at the time.
