Benjamin Sesko has been challenged over why he was Manchester United’s 10th penalty taker in their shootout defeat to Grimsby Town.
The summer signing could not prevent Man United from being knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, 27 August.
Ruben Amorim’s men initially played out a 2-2 draw with League Two side Grimsby Town, but lost 12-11 on penalties.
The Old Trafford club are yet to win in any competition this season, while they face Premier League new boys Burnley in the top flight on Saturday, 30 August.

After the North West side struggled last term, Sesko was signed by Man United to help turn their fortunes around.
The 22-year-old proved himself as a successful striker for his former club RB Leipzig last season, scoring 21 goals across all competitions.
Therefore, the Man United faithful would expect the Slovenia international to be one of the first players on the team sheet to step up in a penalty shootout, especially against fourth-tier opponents.

However, only goalkeeper Andre Onana stepped up to the 12-yard spot after Sesko, who portrayed himself in a bad light.
The Manchester Evening News’ Red Devils writer, Steven Railston, questioned the striker via X on Thursday, 28 August, as he wrote: “Why was Benjamin Sesko the 10th penalty taker last night?
“You want your £66million striker to step up in those moments.
Really doesn’t bode well.”

After Amorim’s side suffered an embarrassing early exit from the Carabao Cup, Man United supporters were rightly angry with Sesko.

The summer arrival can be forgiven for the fact that he has not yet scored in the Premier League for his new club, especially given the fact that both of his two appearances in the top flight have come from the substitutes’ bench.
However, Amorim should now be concerned by the fact that the striker failed to cause serious problems for League Two Grimsby on a night that will be remembered by the Old Trafford faithful for the wrong seasons.
After going on to shy away from his shootout responsibilities, Sesko must prove his worth when Man United face Burnley in the Premier League on 30 August.
The Clarets’ status as a newly promoted side means that any result other than a victory would mark another embarrassing occasion for Amorim’s side.
